No contest plea in LA celeb embezzlement case

LOS ANGELES —

A woman accused of embezzling more than $700,000 from Charlton Heston and television writer and producer Stephen J. Cannell pleaded no contest and was sentenced to more than five years in prison Friday.


Sharon M. Walker, 56, pleaded no contest to two counts of grand theft and one count of tax evasion in Los Angeles Superior Court. A judge immediately sentenced her to prison and ordered her to repay nearly $82,000 in back taxes.


According to prosecutors, Walker stole nearly $568,000 from Cannell, whose writing and producing credits include "The A Team," "21 Jump Street," and "The Rockford Files." Heston and his wife were bilked out of $158,000, prosecutors said in a news release.


Walker worked as an account manager at a business management firm, which allowed her access to Heston and Cannell's financial info. Prosecutors accused her of forging signatures to pay credit card debts between 1999 and 2005.


Jail records show Walker remains in custody at a Los Angeles-area jail. No attorney information was listed and she could not be reached for comment.

TV chef Gordon Ramsay opens new restaurant in West Hollywood

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - Gordon Ramsay is in a California state of mind.

The fiery Scottish chef and star of Fox's "Hell's Kitchen" and "Kitchen Nightmares" was all smiles at the opening of his latest restaurant, Gordon Ramsay at The London West Hollywood, on Wednesday evening.

So why did Ramsay decide to set up shop on the West Coast?

"It's less aggressive than New York," he said in the kitchen during the opening celebration. "Vegas? I don't want to play my card in Las Vegas. It's materialistic. Here, it's proper. I'm very happy to be here. Everything is in abundance in California."

Ramsay said the restaurant, located at The London West Hollywood hotel just off the Sunset Strip, took two years to open. Designed by David Collins, the space features several private dining rooms, wood floors and gold-and pastel-accented furniture. The menu will draw from seasonal ingredients.

During the soiree, soccer star David Beckham mingled with Ramsay, his wife and the kitchen staff behind the scenes while sipping a pint of beer. Ramsay, a former professional soccer player himself, said he and the Los Angeles Galaxy player "go back a long way."

"It's nice having him here," said Ramsay. "He's going to be cooking in (the) kitchen tomorrow night."

Ramsay will soon welcome another person in the kitchen of the new restaurant: the winner of the fourth season of "Hell's Kitchen." The champion will be offered a job as senior sous-chef at Gordon Ramsay at The London West Hollywood with a $250,000 salary. The season finale is scheduled to air July 8.

The Devil Wears Prada kick off Download Day 2

The Devil Wears Prada have kicked off the second day at the Download Festival.

The Christian metalcore band kicked up a storm on the Tuborg Stage for a headbanging set which culminated in a huge mosh pit in the middle of the crowd.

The band played a host of tracks from their debut album �Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord� and their 2007 follow-up �Plagues� including �Modeify The Pronounciation�, �Don�t Dink And Drance, �Dog Can Grow Beards All Over� and �HTML Rulez D00d� during their head banging set.

Singer Mike Hranica also gave a shout out to Judas Priest and Kiss, who performed at the festival last night, when he asked the crowd: �Did any of you guys get to see Judas Priest and Kiss last night? Those guys rock.�

As the band brought the show to a close Hranica ordered the crowd to step back and form a huge moshpit.

Wonder Woman Carter Discovers Dead Body

Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter is reported to have called emergency services after discovering a dead body floating in a river in Washington D.C. The former TV star was out rowing on the Potomac River on Wednesday when she spotted the body of a woman floating face down in the water. Carter immediately dialled 911 and called police to the scene. Police believe the dead woman was a hiker who may have slipped and fallen into the river and are appealing for help in discovering her identity. She is described as around 40 years old and wearing a white jacket, shorts and a t-shirt. Washington D.C. fire and emergency services spokesperson Scott Kane says, "A middle-aged woman was found floating in the water about a quarter mile north of Three Sisters Island. She was found by a canoer. The canoer flagged down some boats and they called Fire and Ems."

LATEST: KENNY CHESNEY has written an online letter to his fans in a bid to clear up the confusion about backstage comments he made after winning his fourth Entertainer of The Year prize at the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday (18May08).

The singer was far from happy when he learned the Entertainer of The Year category was decided by an online vote - and he made it clear he was upset about the idea seconds after walking off the stage in Las Vegas with his prize.

He said, "They took it (award) from what the award really represents into a sweepstakes to see who can push people's buttons the hardest on the Internet. It's complete disrespect for the artist."

Chesney insists he isn't taking back what he said, but he feels the way his remarks have been reported makes him look ungrateful.

In the letter to fans, he writes, "Entertainer of The Year is about the work that goes into it. I don't ever want you worrying about the work; I want you living the songs.

"That was my point. Let the people who do the work, judge the work part of it... (and) let the fans love what we do for that."

Chesney admits he was applauded for going public with his remarks by his peers: "The entire media room applauded pretty resoundingly after I addressed it Sunday night."

The idea for South London's electro-rock outfit Clor came from Bad Bunny, a clubhouse night that isaac M. Singer Barry Dobbin and guitarist Luke Smith ran. Along with the music they already spun -- which ranged from reggae to electronic to pop -- the duette wanted to comprise their have music into their DJ sets, so they began recording at Smith's apartment. Dobbin and Smith invited some of the other musicians and crew involved with Bad Bunny into the flock, and Clor (so named because Dobbin wanted something that sounded raw, archaic, and futurist at the same time) expanded to a quintette. The group recorded a demonstration, Welcome Music Lovers, with the intent of sending it out to good Book shows at other clubs. However, tidings of mouth about Clor's demo spread so cursorily that the ring gestural to Parlophone after playing only six-spot gigs. Welcome Music Lovers was released as the band's debut EP late in 2004. Despite their record deal, Clor's creative process didn't change much: the band recorded its 2005 self-titled debut (which was preceded by the singles Beloved + Pain and Outlines) at Smith's shoes, and the results were as kinky and danceable as ever. In spring 2006, simply ahead Clor was imputable for release in the U.S., the band bust up imputable to creative differences.

Mel Gibson - Gibson Pals Deny Hes A Hollywood Pariah


The producer of MEL GIBSON's new movie has hit out at claims the actor has been blacklisted by Hollywood studios.

Recent reports suggested Gibson has failed to find a studio to distribute his new film Edge of Darkness, because major companies have turned their back on him following his drunken anti-Semitic rant two years ago (06).

But the film's Oscar-winning producer Graham King reveals this summer's impending actor's strike - due to take place during the planned Edge of Darkness shoot - is the real reason he hasn't sold the film.

King explains, "The only reason I didn't sell the movie, is I had to get a SAG (Screen Actor's Guild) waiver. If I had a distribution deal with a studio, I never would have gotten the waiver."

King also dismisses claims Gibson is hated in Hollywood: "I don't think so. We took the movie to Cannes. I sold the movie in Israel. It surprised the hell out of me."

Jim Wiatt, the chairman of Gibson's agency, William Morris, agrees with King, telling the New York Post, "It's not true that the studios won't work with Mel. He's been offered movies by Fox and Warner Bros. and others."

He too produced a massive concert to help immortalize the 1993 startup of united States President Bill Clinton, and at the 1995 Academy Awards won the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, a prize that undoubtedly establish its place beside Quincy's 26 Grammy Awards.
